Chinese Welding Training and Qualification Committee (CANB) is a legal representative of national bodies authorized by IIW to conduct IIW international harmonized welding training and qualification system in China.
CANB was found in August 1998 at the national welding training conference which was corporately held by Chinese Welding Society and Chinese Welding Association in Harbin . Meanwhile, the corresponding function departments were set up in accordance with the IIW requirements.
CANB Council consists of the representatives from influential organizations and enterprises related to welding. CANB Governing Board comprises representatives from Chinese Welding Society, Chinese Welding Association, National Welding Standard Committee and other welding-related industrial societies, associations and institutes.
In November 1998, CANB submitted the application forms to IIW and paid the ANB assessment fee. On 4 th , May 1999, after half a year's delicate preparation, CANB Secretariat finished compiling quality system documentation, translated it into English, and finally submitted a complete set of application documents to IIW.
At Lisbon annual meeting of IIW, the Lead and Peer assessors Mr. Jessop and Stripplemann verified the quality system that has fully fulfilled the requirements of IIW, proclaimed CANB has passed the paper assessment and decided to carry out on-site assessment. Meanwhile, IIW passed Chinese Access Conditions.
From 7 to 9 September 1999 , two assessors of IIW came to Harbin to perform on-site assessment. The two assessors highly praised the achievements of CANB after two day's audit, one day's visit to the first ATB, Harbin Welding Training Institute. They also gave some advice to some non-compliance.
From 24 to 27 January 2000 , two assessors reported the audit of CANB at the meeting held in Paris . IIW gave the full authorization to CANB unanimously. At the meeting, Chinese representative made presentation about some detail information such as Chinese welding education system, the professional title assessment and the comparison between our school education of all levels and corresponding guidelines of IIW, submitted Chinese transition arrangements to the international qualification. All countries unanimously accepted the transition arrangements of CANB with systematic and clear statements.
Now, CANB has got the full authorization by IIW, Access Conditions and Transition Arrangements have been passed. CANB started to implement the international harmonized welding training and qualification system from March 2000. Thus, the internationally recognized qualification can be got directly under IIW qualification scheme, creating the necessary conditions to undertake international projects, to import and export machinery and electronic products and to make international cooperation after our access to the WTO.
